Bio - Thomas Jenkins.
Thomas Jenkins (born 1980) is a British designer based in Oslo, Norway. He started his career in 2002 working for Dyson appliances, and in 2006 moved to Oslo as a senior designer for Frost Produkt.

Thomas attended London South Bank University where he graduated from a degree (1st class) in engineering Product Design in 2002. A course he took as he wanted to learn as much as possible about manufacturing as well as developing his creativity.

Thomas’ work at Dyson involved designing for floorcare, laundry and new product streams. In his time at Frost Produkt, he created designs for a wide range of products, from post boxes for the Royal Norwegian Post Office, Smart Bike systems in Barcelona, Stockholm and Oslo and outdoor interactive light installations. His work with Frost has been exhibited at 100% design in London.

In September 2008 he was invited to attend a Summer School run by the Royal Designers for Industry. Here he worked with and learned from some of the UK’s best designers and following this he was invited to become a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Thomas also runs the blog: if you only ever buy one.

Process.
The Brief: A great design starts with a detailed understanding of the business problem to be solved, this is the purpose of the brief. Both the designer and client should formulate the brief together with an equal responsibility for the success of the project. Once a brief is agreed a detailed plan of action is drawn up. This plan will be divided into phases. The first phase is typically sketches to visualize of the brief’s solution. After this the number of phases left is dependant on the project’s size. Phases are structured to give meaningful results on paper upon completion. This information can then be evaluated and used to discuss and plan the next phase.
